Abstract.In the article by the example of Ordzhonikidze the situation with food supply of the residents of the Soviet peripheral towns in the late 1940s–1960s is analyzed. The problem of providing food to the population of small towns for many years had been unresolved. The services of outstanding scientists in the field of crop cultivating technology in the North Caucasus and in particular in North Ossetia are shown.
